Some businesses concerned about proposed roundabout in Utica

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Some Utica business people are concerned that a proposed roundabout on Oneida Square would amount to a dead end for their businesses.

"The vast majority of business people here have expressed a deep concern about the impact this will have on the future of their business," says community advocate Tim Trent. "Several of them are concerned that their business will even survive."

The roundabout would eliminate 18 traffic signals. Federal funds would pay for most of the $1.9 million project.

Some business owners fear that already sparse parking spaces would disappear. Others worry about changing the traffic pattern in Oneida Square.

Concerned business owners are holding a 'community conversation' to talk about the proposed roundabout. Anyone with concerns is invited to attend the meeting at the Utica Public Library Thursday night, February 10, 2011 from 6-8 p.m.
