Some residents evacuated in Sherrill after gas leak

SHERRILL, N.Y. (WKTV) - Some residents in the City of Sherrill had to be evacuated for roughly four hours after a gas leak in the area of Sherrill Road and Hinds Ave.

According to Oneida County Emergency Management, crews were working in the area when a gas line had been hit around 10:30 a.m., with the smell of gas filling the air nearby.

Sherrill City Manager Robert Comis said that gas was shooting straight up from the gas line, which was actually good because it meant the gas wouldn't get into the ground.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes around 2 p.m. and National Grid was working to finish repairs.
