Special Amtrak stop lets people take train to the New York State Fair
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - This summer, Amtrak will once again provide service directly to the New York State Fair, offering families from areas east and west of Syracuse a convenient and affordable way to travel to the state's largest annual event.
"For many families, this service is a very attractive option," State Fair Director Dan O'Hara said. "The train ride itself is a fun family outing, and a child with an adult can ride for free." For families traveling to the Fair, Amtrak is offering a special New York State Fair Kids Ride Free promotion. With the Kids Ride Free promotion, children and youths ages two through 15 may travel for free when traveling with a paid adult passenger. One free child fare is allowed for every paid adult. The New York State Fair Kids Ride Free promotion is only available on coach travel to and from the New York State Fair, and may not be combined with any other promotion. To obtain the discount, refer to code V230 when making a reservation. Tickets must be purchased a minimum of three days prior to travel. They will be available for purchase now through Sept. 3, 2010. As they have in the past, selected Empire Service and Maple Leaf trains will make a stop at a special New York State Fair station behind the Fair Grandstand. Both routes travel east and west, linking the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica, Albany and Hudson Valley areas. Travelers can explore possible routes and schedules through Amtrak's website. The three-letter code to use when searching for the New York State Fair stop is NYF. The 2010 New York State Fair will run from Aug. 26 through Sept. 6. Advance-sale tickets - which offer a 40 percent savings - are available now at the Fair Box Office and at grocery stores and other outlets throughout the state. People can check the Fair's website to find the outlet closest to their home. |
