St. Elizabeth Medical Center honors founder, now saint
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - St. Elizabeth Medical Center held a special mass honoring one of their founders, Marianne Cope, who was canonized a saint Sunday in Vatican City.
People from the greater Utica area gathered at the chapel on the hospital's campus. The mass was officiated by Chaplain John Comeskey who said, "It isn't everyday that a person can say we have someone associated with the hospital who is a saint in heaven."
Lenora Murad, of New Hartford, and Nan Loconti, of Utica, are friends who attended the mass Sunday. They felt it was important to be a part of the special day.
Barb Zumpano works for St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She said the hospital is still holding true to Saint Marianne's mission of helping others. She cited the Sister Rose Vincent Family Medicine Center on Hobart Street which is known for helping refugee families who come to Utica.
Those at the mass say it's important that the hospital continues the legacy of Saint Marianne Cope by helping others no matter the circumstances.
