Stacking Sandwiches for The Ride for Missing Children

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A new group of volunteers is helping out at The Ride For Missing Children this year.

Junior and Senior culinary students at Oneida BOCES made over 600 sandwiches Thursday morning. Riders will receive those sandwiches at the lunch stop in Frankfort Friday afternoon.

Students baked rolls from scratch, and the New York State United Teachers Association donated funding for sandwich meats and vegetables. Charlie Hoffmeister, the culinary instructor, jumped on the opportunity to be a part of the event.

"We like to do community service activities," says Hoffmeister. "It gave us an opportunity to do heavy duty production and also to do something for the community. I think inspiring kids to be a part of the community is a big part of what we do at BOCES."

Other students are also pitching in when it comes to provisions. Westmoreland High School students are assembling bagel sandwiches for riders for breakfast.
