Staples in Rome among chain's stores slated to close

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Staples stores announced in March several locations -- and one of those will be the downtown Rome store.

Rome Mayor Joseph Fusco confirms the store is closing, but he wants to put a stop to rumors of other stores pulling out of the same plaza.

"It's an important plaza," Fusco said. "It's very active. There's also been a lot of rumors about Marshall's and JC Penney. We've talked to those folks, and there are no plans in the immediate future. Marshall's says they're doing well down here."

Nationally, Staples stores are expected to start closing in the middle of next year, but it's not yet known when the Rome store will close.
