State Police investigating deadly crash in Madison County

SULLIVAN, N.Y. (WKTV) - State Police are investigating a deadly accident that killed an elderly Canastota man Thursday afternoon. Police say 82-year-old Charles G. Stevens was pronounced dead at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

Investigators say Stevens was operating a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on Lakeport Road, south Smith Ridge Road in the Town of Sullivan when his truck left the roadway, struck a culvert and some small trees and overturned into a stream. It happened shortly after 2pm Thursday.

Stevens was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash. They asked to call State Police in Oneida at (315) 366-6000 or Sullivan at (315) 687-6050.
