Stewart's Shops remember Philly Dake with ice cream cone giveaway

By WKTV News

Beautiful weather on Friday made for a nice day for some ice cream, and many families enjoyed a free Philly Vanilla Ice Cream Cone at Stewart's Shops across the area.

The free cone is dished up in honor of Philly Dake, the widow of Charles S. Dake, an original owner of Stewart's, Sister-in-Law of Bill Dake, Stewart's Chairman of the Board and Aunt to Gary Dake, Stewart's President. She spent 50 years with Stewart's and was an Executive Vice President when she retired.

"She was pretty big into the business," said Gus Johnson of the Stewart's in Kirkland. "She was the one who came up with the make your own sundae, which is where the customers make their own. We supply the ice cream and the dips and they put it on the ice cream as they like."

The free ice cream initiative ran from 2 - 6 pm on Friday at all 328 Stewart's Shop locations.
