Storm system brings heavy snow and sleet to area overnight

Even though the calendar shows Spring beginning on Wednesday, Mother Nature had another plan in store.

A storm system from the Great Lakes brought heavy snow as well has sleet and freezing rain to Central New York overnight from Monday to Tuesday, creating slippery roadways and white-out conditions.

Numerous schools were closed or delayed due to the wintry mix this morning.

Officially, Utica received 5.5" with a general 4"-8" across upstate New York.

Reinforcing cold air moves in Tuesday evening, with some snow squalls and windy conditions. Lake effect snow sets up on the Tug Hill Tuesday night into Wednesday.
