Storms cause damage, closings throughout area

The last tornado warnings for the viewing area - Fulton and Hamilton Counties - expired around 6:15 a.m. on Thursday, but that was only after severe storms, capable of producing tornadoes, made their way throughout Madison County, Oneida County, Herkimer County, and on to Fulton and Hamilton Counties.

Damage has been reported throughout the viewing area, including trees down and severe damage to a home on Brockway Road and in Frankfort, and reports of flooding in Cold Brook.

Three feet of water in some areas of New Hartford and Washington Mills has the town's highway superintendent advising people to stay off the road

One viewer reported the road at the intersection of Honey Hill Road and Strumlock Road in the Newport/Poland area washed out around 6:40 a.m. Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, schools throughout the area took action, with Hamilton Central New York Mills, and Waterville Central all on two hour delays; New Hartford Central and Sherburne-Earlville on one hour delays.

Sauquoit Valley Central Schools, Poland Central and Madison Central School, and Family Nursery School in New Hartford closed. New York Mills Central Schools also closed, bu faculty must report.

St. John the Evangelist in New Hartford canceled their Pre-K Thursday morning and the Parkway Senior Center in Utica closed their RSVP office.
