ORISKANY, N.Y. (AP) - Officials are investigating the suicide of a 19-year-old Oneida County Jail inmate who hanged himself with a bed sheet.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says that Dylan Burke of West Leyden had initially been on suicide watch when he was locked up early last week, but then was placed under monitoring every 10 minutes in a cell after an interview with mental health staff.

He was resuscitated by county jail staff who found him hanging on July 3, but he died the next day at a hospital.

Burke was charged in June with grand larceny, accused of stealing a 1966 International Pickup truck on June 13 and a 1995 Subaru Outback on June 14. Authorities said he had been found at a recycling yard in Taberg with one of the vehicles.

Undersheriff Robert Swenszkowski says Tuesday there are no signs Burke's death was anything but a suicide, but state Commission of Corrections will investigate.

Burke had been arrested on warrants involving a minor drug possession charge and falsifying business records.
