Summer Slider Search is back after hiatus

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - The Summer Slider Search offers your child a chance to try a sport they may have never tried before.

The search, which is back after a two-year hiatus, is where Olympic bronze medalist Erin Hamlin had her first taste of luge in 1999 in Syracuse.

On Thursday, Hamlin talked about what she and the staff who put on the event are looking for.

"Attitude is a big thing," Hamlin said. "Willing to come in, really absorb information we give them. Obviously, a little bit of coordination, to be able to take the slide down the hill a little. But we realize it's something very new to most kids. We're not looking for some kid to come in and be perfect."

The Summer Slider Search is from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 16 and 17 on Cornelia Street, between Court Street and Columbia Street. The event is free and open to children ages 9-13.
