Supression hearings set for teens accused of Utica man's murder

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Robert Thompson and Trevon Patterson are both charged with shooting and killing George Garrow inside his Utica home last November. Both have turned down plea deals. Now that they are both going to trial, lawyers are trying to get certain statements thrown out.

Monday's motions were to set suppression hearings regarding more than seven hours worth of videotaped interviews with investigators. Lawyers argue that officers went to far during the interview process, even allegedly lying about what Patterson's half-brother, Thompson, was saying in the other interview room, thus coercing certain statements from Patterson.

Both Thompson and Patterson risk a possible sentence of 25 years-to-life in prison if convicted. Patterson's suppression hearing is set for August 17th. Thompson's is on August 31st.
