Suspect in fatal Rome stabbing arraigned on murder charges

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The man accused or stabbing another man to death in the City of Rome is arraigned on murder charges in Oneida County Court in Utica on Monday.

Terrance Dames, 26, of Brooklyn is accused of stabbing 20-year-old Stephen LaPointe to death in September on a Rome street corner.

He was indicted by an Oneida County Grand Jury last week.

Dames has told police that LaPointe started an argument with him by saying a racial slur, and that he wrestled a knife from LaPointe and stabbed him in self defense.

Dames also faces a weapons possession charge, forgery and false personation charges.

He is due back in Oneida County Court on November 29.
