Swifty's Restaurant and Pub opens in Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - There's a new place to grab a bite to eat in Downtown Utica. It's called Swifty's Restaurant and Pub. The eatery just opened up on Genesee Street Thursday afternoon.

Swifty's offers 22 beers on tap and a wide variety on the menu. "We've got the Irish foods. We've got wraps, burgers, sandwiches, steaks, seafood. You know just a combination of a lot of things for people," said Partner Dave Wood.

The owners have two other locations in New York State. One in the North County in Indian Lake. The other is in Delmar- near Albany. Wood is very excited to make the big debut on Boilermaker Weekend! "I think there are a lot of people from the Albany area and the North Country that do come down and run the Boilermaker that are excited to see the place. We think it's a good opportunity for us to get the word out in a variety of areas. We're excited about the number of people the Boilermaker brings to town. I myself have run it for five years," said Wood.

Wood says they hope Swifty's will become a staple in Utica. "We're right next to the Stanley Downtown. We're trying to help revitalize it a little bit," said Wood. "We think that Downtown hasn't had something quite like what we're doing with as many tv's and sports bar and different types of menu items. We do a "Mug Club" so you can kind of have a little ownership. So people have a little of the business. We want it to feel like it's a part of home to them, you know, they are a part of the business as well."

Swifty's will be open Monday through Saturday at 11am for lunch and remain open for dinner. They plan to open on Sundays as well- but not until football season.

The building used to be home to the "257 Steakhouse."
