Sylvan Beach man charged with rape for July incident

A Sylvan Beach man has been charged with rape after authorities say he had sex with a minor.

According to the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, Jon Owens, 22, of Sylvan Beach is now facing a charged of third-degree rape following an investigation into an alleged sexual assault in the Town of Verona in early July.

The age and gender of the victim was not released by authorities, but they do say that the victim is being offered counseling through the Advocacy Center.

Owens was arraigned in New York Mills Court and sent to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail. The case is now being referred to the Oneida County District Attorney's Office for Grand Jury consideration.
