Syracuse college student from Taiwan dies in fall

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Syracuse University Chancellor Nancy Cantor says a female student has died unexpectedly from a fall.

In a letter to students, faculty and staff, Cantor identified the student as Marianne Guppenberger, a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences who lived in Day Hall. Cantor said the young woman was originally from Taipei, Taiwan.

Police have not commented on the circumstances regarding Guppenberger's death early Saturday morning, and the university gave no further details.
