The Village of Richfield Springs is safe from dissolution and residents weigh in
RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The votes are in and the Village of Richfield Springs will not dissolve into the town of Richfield after a 281 to 48 vote. Residents were vocal about their feelings on what could have been the end of a 152-year-old village, including some who felt misled about signing that original petition.
" I'm here now that I understand what's going on," he said. "I am here to vote to keep the village."
"They were saying tax hikes and people are getting too much money for their jobs and I thought it was going to be a little thing, but its been snowballed into this now."
The overall opinions of locals at the Village Town Hall on Tuesday night was to save the village.
" I like it the way it is," said Grant Seamon. And Ronald Higgins, another longtime resident of the village, said he's "dead set" against the measure.
