By SPENCER DAVIDSON

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The 3rd Annual "Unspoken" Conference began at SUNYIT, Wednesday.

The conference is aimed at helping refugees in the Utica area receive and maintain human rights.

World renowned experts from Harvard and Bellevue we're at the event, combining film, art, music, and lectures to provide lessons on trauma and torture.

Many local school districts, health departments, and social service agencies also attended the event to learn about human rights.

"The concentration of refugees and even immigrants in this area is uniquely high," said Shelly Callahan, of the MV Resource Center for Refugees. "So it really helps professional development and the services people can provide to our community if theyre informed about the experiences these people had before they got here."

The event continues Thursday, from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
