UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Three people have been charged by the Utica Police Department in three separate shooting investigations.

There have been 32 calls for "shots fired" in the city of Utica since August 1 and during the course of the investigations, Utica Police say it became apparent that some of the shootings are related and retaliatory in nature.

Terry Smith, 21, is accused in an incident that happened on Elizabeth Street.

Vennie Coleman allegedly pointed a gun at three people in a vehicle on August 16, also on Elizabeth Street, police said.

Shakir Elliot is the third suspect wanted for the incident on Wager Street earlier this week, where shots were fired out of a jeep in the direction of a home. Two other men - Victor Jones and Antar Handy - were arrested earlier this week, but police needed the public's help in finding Elliot.

"We got a tip that he was in the area of Kossuth Ave, fled on foot into a construction site and we surrounded site," said Sgt. Steve Hauck of the Utica Police Department, adding that a K9 Officer and Handler then found Elliot hiding under a trailer.

Hauck says Thursday night was the first night in a long time that officers did not take any reports of shots fired.

There are still no arrests in regard to a shooting that occurred around 10:30 p.m. Monday night on Nichols Street, where three people were hit. The names of those victims have not been released.
