HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - One person was killed and eight others were injured after a one vehicle rollover on the New York State Thruway Sunday afternoon.

State Police say around 1:09pm calls came in to 911 about an accident in the eastbound lanes of I-90 near the Herkimer exit. Witnesses say the vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Express van, was traveling in the left lane when it went off the side of the road and re-entered the road, flipping over several times before landing in the middle of the road on it's side.

Herkimer County Coroner Vincent Enea pronounced one of the passengers dead at the scene. She has been identified as 67-year-old Tanya Evans from Annandale, Virginia. Evans' body has been transported to the Little Falls Hospital for an autopsy.

The driver, Jennifer Hodson, 42, of Houston, Texas and two other passengers were taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment. Hodson was taken from St. Luke's to a Syracuse-area hospital where she was listed in good condition as of Monday afternoon.

Three passengers are being treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

One passenger was transported to St. Elizabeth's and later flown to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse by Mercy Flight.

One additional passenger was flown directly from the scene to Upstate Medical Center, also by Mercy Flight.

The accident forced the closure of the eastbound lanes of the Thruway from 1:15pm to around 5pm on Sunday. Traffic was snarled for many hours as Boilermaker participants and spectators were trying to make their way home.
