Tight lips on "Project Azalea" as MV Edge holds end of the year meeting
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mohawk Valley Edge leadership gathered at the Radisson Hotel in Utica on Tuesday for their annual, year-end meeting.
They are closing the books on yet another year without a chip fab plant committed to the Marcy nano site at SUNYIT.
Edge President Steve DiMeo still says it will happen but that they are at the mercy of the ups and downs of the industry, at a time when competition for sites is quite fierce.
"Project Azalea" was the big thing on everyone's mind, but nobody's lips.
A consulting firm has been scouting nanotech sites in upstate New York, Marcy among them, on behalf of an undisclosed company.
Speculation in the Albany Times-Union suggested that Apple might even be the company scouting manufacturing sites.
Mohawk Valley Edge President Steve DiMeo will not reveal their identity, but it doesn't sound like there are going to be any imminent announcements as a result of that site visit.
The good news is, the site is closer to being shovel ready. As part of Tuesday's meeting, DiMeo was going to bring everyone up to speed on site progress regarding things like sewer, power, roads and other infrastructure improvements.
