Town of New Lisbon man accused of sexual assault

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - A Town of New Lisbon man was arrested Tuesday and faces several charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted an Oneida County woman, the Otsego County Sheriff's Office said.

Richard Allen Schaffer, 75, of County Highway 17 in Garrattsville, is charged with criminal sexual act, sexual abuse and criminal possession of marijuana.

According to officials, early May 11, an Oneida County woman called 911 and said she had an altercation with Schaffer in his home. The 42-year-old woman was interviewed by sheriff's investigators and said she fled the home because Schaffer allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with her against her will.

On Tuesday, deputies went to Schaffer's home and seized more than 3.5 ounces of marijuana, deputies said.

Schaffer was released on his own recognizance. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison on the sexual assault charges and another year in Otsego County Jail on the drug charge.
