Tractor-trailer accident in New Hartford snaps utility pole

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - An accident in New Hartford Tuesday morning snapped a utility pole in half, New Hartford Police said.

The collision happened around 6:30 a.m. at the corner of Wilbur Road and Andover Avenue when a northbound tractor-trailer tried to make a right turn from Wilbur Road onto Andover. The 53-foot-long trailer hit a utility pole and snapped it in half. The impact caused a cable television wire to fall across the top of the truck.

The truck's driver, Harold E. Kautz, 62, of Constoga, Pa., was not injured in the collision. The right side and roof of the trailer was damaged.

Kautz was issued a summons for driving a truck on a residential roadway that has a posted six-ton weight limit.

National Grid crews at the scene said the utility pole will have to be replaced.
