By WKTV News

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - At least one person was taken by ambulance with what appeared to be serious injuries and traffic was shut down for a few hours in the eastbound lane of Route 49 following a multiple motor vehicle accident in Marcy.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. near what is known as the Nine Mile Bridge.

New York State Police, Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies and multiple ambulance were all on the scene, with traffic shutdown in the eastbound lane from the Route 825 Griffiss Exit to the Oriskany Exit. It has since re-opened.

At least two cars sustained heavy damage, one of them with its front end crashed into a guard rail and another rolled over onto its top, with extremely heavy damage to the roof and front end of the car.

Sheriff's Deputies at the scene said it was believed a third vehicle was involved as well.

Witnesses traveling on Route 49 say one of the drivers was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane and narrowly missed hitting a tractor trailer.

At least one person was extricated from one of the vehicles after roughly 11 minutes. They were taken away by ambulance with what appeared to be serious injuries.
