TRENTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Trenton Town supervisor has been indicted on a charge of sex abuse.
According to the Oneida County District Attorney's Office, Trenton Supervisor Mark Scheidelman was indicted by an Oneida County Grand Jury on a charge of first-degree sex abuse.
Authorities say Scheidelman is accused of inappropriate touching of a seven year old boy who was an acquaintance. State Police said it was one of the child's family members who contacted authorities to report the alleged abuse, which they say happened at Scheidelman's home.
Scheidelman has been involved in Trenton Town Government for the past 31 years and has been Town Supervisor for the past 20 years. In November, the Trenton Town Board stated he would remain Town Supervisor and would continue in that capacity for the foreseeable future. The town's attorney said at that time that there was no legal way to remove Scheidelman from the position because based on the law, he must be convicted of a crime.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Oneida County Court on March 18.
