Trial for man accused of fatally shooting Deputy pushed into 2012

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The murder trial for a local man accused of shooting and killing an Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy has been pushed off into next year.

Christian Patterson is accused of shooting Deputy Kurt Wyman following a six-hour standoff in the Town of Augusta back in June.

On Tuesday in Oneida County Court in Utica, Patterson waived a hearing regarding the admissibility at trial of certain statements he allegedly made to police following the shooting.

Patterson's attorney and prosecutors agreed on what portions of the statement should be permitted, so that agreement replaced the hearing.

Also in court, the judge told Patterson to be back in court December 5, at which time he will set a trial date, most likely for the third or fourth week in January.

The trial was originally supposed to happen in early December, but was postponed to give both sides more time to prepare.
