Truck crashes into car and liquor store, driver charged

VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Honduras man has been charged with DWI after authorities say he crashed into a liquor store in the Village of Vernon on Sunday night.

According to Sheriff Rob Maciol, Ruben Gonzalez, 31, of Honduras was leaving Pedro's Restaurant with his passenger Carlos Salala, 28 of Guatemla, when they failed to stop and yield the right of way leaving the parking lot.

Authorities said Gonzalez drove into oncoming traffic and his vehicle was struck, causing him to lose control and drive into the Vernon Wine and Spirits store front.

Gonzalez and Salala then fled the scene, but were were apprehended a short time later, Sheriff Maciol said.

Gonzalez was charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident and other traffic infractions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

No one was injured in the accident.
