Will PGA Tournament mean big business for surrounding area?

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Area businesses like the Recovery Sports Bar in Verona, are hoping nicer weather means more fans at the Turning Stone Resort Championship, which will result in more business for the week.

For the first time in its four years, the Turning Stone Resort Championship will be played during the FedEx Cup, as well as in the summer, as the festivities start Monday.

The golfers were at the Atunyote Golf Course on Monday, practicing as several spectators walked the course. According to statistics put out by the PGA, between $25-$30 million is brought to an area where tournaments are held.

Colin Wixson, General Manager of the Recovery Sports Bar across from the Turning Stone Casino, says he is hoping to get a slice of that pie. Wixson says business was good last year, but he expects it to be better this year with nicer weather and more fans.

"It's going to be a packed house Thursday through Sunday," Wixson said. "As we get support staff checking into the hotel, around here for the next couple days business will pick up as well. It is a great shot in the arm. Summer has been really good for us so far, but a week like this, with this amount of people in the area, is just a huge lift."

According to NEWSChannel 2 meteorologist Bill Kardas, rain is likely Thursday for the start of the tournament however Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be sunny.
