Twelve dogs victimized in animal abuse case

By SPENCER DAVIDSON

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Herkimer County Humane Society reported that they took in 12 dogs who appeared to be abused and neglected, Sunday.

At approximately 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, State Police and the Humane Society were called to the scene on State Route 28 between Herkimer and Middleville, where they found the dogs wandering in various conditions.

The Humane Society reported that some of the dogs found were said to be unsocial, malnurished, had little or no hair, and had some skin problems.

It appears as though some may even have lost some of their eye sight. The dogs are currently being tested for diseases, and are in vet care.

According to officials, the oldest dog appears to be about 8 years old, however, they also say that animals in this type of condition often look older than they are.

The Humane Society believes that all of the dogs have a long road to recovery.

No charges have been reported at this time.
