Two Dead after vehicle crash and fire in Vienna

VIENNA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two men were killed in the Town of Vienna early Saturday morning after the car they were riding in overturned and caught fire with the occupants still inside.

New York State Police say a car driven by 20-yea-old Tyler Laplante failed to negotiate a right hand turn on Vienna Road in the Town of Vienna at about 2am Saturday morning. After leaving the roadway, the car struck a tree and burst into flames. A passenger, 22 year old Justin Didio of Oneida was able to free himself from the car and call for help.

According to State Police, Laplante and another passenger, believed to be 21 year old Angelo Gonzalez of Camden were still in the vehicle when flames engulfed the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Positive identification of the victims is pending autopsy results. The extent of Didio's injuries is unknown.

State Police say alcohol and unsafe speed may have been contributing factors to the crash. The investigation is continuing.
