By WKTV News

TRENTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oneida County Sheriff's Department is investigating an accident that sent two women from Herkimer County to the hospital Sunday. It happened in the Hamlet of Hinckley on Route 365.

Deputies say Erica Holovitz, 22, of Ilion, drove into the intersection of Route 365 and South Side Road when her vehicle was struck by a car driven by Michel Briere, 50, of Indiana. Members of the Barneveld and Remsen Fire Departments had to use hydraulic equipment to cut Holovitz out of her vehicle. She was taken by helicopter to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with critical injuries.

A passenger in Holovitz's vehicle, Sandra Foti, 50, of Herkimer also suffered critical injuries. She was taken by Prospect Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment.

Briere and his passenger, both of Indiana, were not injured. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
