Two bitten by rabid fox in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two people were bitten by a rabid fox in the Town of Frankfort, according to the Herkimer County Department of Public Health.

Residents are now being urged to be strongly careful around wild animals including foxes, cows, skunks, racoons and bats in all parts of Herkimer County.

The incidents happened on back-to-back days. One person was bitten and called the Department of Environmental Conservation. A D.E.C. officer responded and killed the fox, who was later tested positive for rabies.

Herkimer County Public Health provides free rabies clinics. The next one is planned for Thursday, October 18 at East Herkimer Fire House, 193 Main Road, Herkimer, NY.
