Two charged after authorities discover more than ten pounds of marijuana in Lewis County

MARTINSBURG, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two Lewis County men are facing charges after authorities say more than ten pounds of marijuana was found in a Martinsburg residence.

According to New York State Police, on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at approximately 8 p.m., State Police in Lowville in conjunction with the New York State Forest Rangers located a marijuana growing operation at a residence on State Route 26 in the Town of Martinsburg.

Officer's located the owner and tenant of the property, who admitted to growing and processing marijuana on the property, including inside the residence and surrounding buildings.

The home owner - identified as 58 year-old, Jonathon E. Dunn and a tenant identified as 66 year-old, Harry T. Lewis were arrested after officers responded to Lewis' Gardner Road residence and detected a strong odor coming from within the residence.

Authorities said a subsequent search of the residence discovered the processed marijuana in excess weight of more than ten pounds in their possession.

Both defendants are charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful growing of cannabis.

The defendants were arraigned in the Village of Lowville Court and released to re-appear at such court at a later date.

The seized marijuana has a street value of approximately $200,000.
