HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Fort Plain woman and an Ilion man are both facing welfare fraud charges in two unrelated incidents, the Herkimer County Sheriff Chris Farber stated on Monday.

Aubrey L. Cheyne, 29, of Fort Plain was charged with third-degree welfare fraud, and third-degree grand larceny. Cheyne was processed and arraigned in the Town of German Flatts court and released on her own recognizance to reappear in local criminal court at a later date.

According to the Herkimer County Sheriff's Office, Cheyne fraudulently received $4,696 worth of benefits over a period of time because of unreported income.

In an unrelated incident, Eugene M. Brownrigg, 38, of Ilion was charged with third-degree welfare fraud and third-degree grand larceny. Brownrigg was processed and arraigned in the Village of Herkimer Court and released on his own recognizance to reappear in local criminal court at a later date.

The Sheriff's Office states that Brownrigg failed to repay the Department of Social Service money he received for Decedent benefits in 2011.
