Two inmates accused of assaulting same victim in separate incidents at Otsego County Correctional Facility

By WKTV News

OTSEGO COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two inmates at the Otsego County Correctional Facility were charged after officials say they were involved in separate attempted assaults on the same inmate in the jail in March 2012.

According to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, on March 8, inmate Jason A. Thomas, 34, of Maryland, N.Y., punched another male inmate twice in the head.

On March 15, in a separate incident, Charles S. Kulick IV, 21, of Utica, violently attacked the same inmate. Kulick IV punched and threw the inmate onto the floor during the attack.

Kulick was charged in 2010 for, along with another man, stealing a wallet and cell phone from someone both men knew. In May 2012, Kulick pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless endangerment for a January 20, 2011 shooting. Police said Kulick had a problem with a person and was shooting at their house from a pickup truck when he missed and struck the wrong house. He is in the Otsego County Correctional Facility on burglary charges from 2011.

The victim of the incidents received medical care at the Otsego County Correctional Facility for minor abrasions and contusions. Both inmates were issued appearance tickets returnable next month and they are both being held in the Correctional Facility on bail on other felony charges.

Both Thomas and Kulick IV were charged with second-degree assault. If convicted, they both face up to four years in prison for these charges.
