Two men hospitalized after snowmobile accident in Florence

FLORENCE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two men have been hospitalized following a snowmobile accident in the Town of Florence, Saturday night.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Department, at approximately 11:00 p.m., emergency crews were called to the scene of a snowmobile trail off of Osceola Rd., after a report of an accident that had taken place.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers discovered that three males had driven over an embankment on a sharp curve of the trail.

Authorities say that one of the operators, Jason Harris, of Bridgeport, was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse due to severe injuries. The second operator, Michael Whitehead, of Syracuse was transported by ambulance to Rome ER for injuries of his own.

The third male was identified as Andrew Washburn, of Taberg, who sustained no injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office believes that speed was a factor in the three vehicle accident, however, the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
