(WKTV) - Two people were injured in a motor vehicle accident Wednesday morning in the Town of Floyd, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office said.

According to officials, Matthew Copperwheat, 27, of Sauquoit was driving a Penske moving truck on Route 365 in the Town of Floyd around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when he tried to make a left onto Soule Road. Copperwheat is alleged to have turned in front of Denise Potter, 57, of Remsen, causing a head-on collision and forcing Potter's vehicle into a third car operated by John Bieksza, 51, of Holland Patent, who was stopped at the intersection.

Copperwheat was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was evaluated for chest pain. Potter was taken to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with a broken leg. Neither injury appears to be life-threatening, officials said.

Copperwheat was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield the right of way. He will appear at the Town of Floyd Court at a later date.
