(WKTV) - Two area women face drug charges after a traffic stop Wednesday, Utica police said.
Rose Koster, 48, of Green Street is charged with five counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Two of those counts involve an intent to sell.
Amanda Velardi, 31, of North Levelt Street in Rome, is charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
According to authorities, around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers in an unmarked vehicle were stopped at a red traffic light at the intersection of John and Oriskany streets when they saw the driver of a car next to them allegedly lighting and smoking a substance from a glass tube. One of the officers recognized the actions as that of someone smoking crack cocaine.
Officers stopped the car and Koster allegedly took a container out of her bra and tried to hide it behind the driver's seat. Officials say the container was holding 67 hydrocodone pills.
