Two women charged, accused of trying to smuggle drugs to inmates
MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two women from the New York City area are facing charges after authorities say they tried to smuggled drugs in to inmates at Marcy Correctional Facility. Authorities say Teresa E. Cortes, 62, of Brooklyn was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and first-degree promoting prison contraband. State Police say she possessed 20 dosage units of the controlled substance known as "suboxone." She was arraigned in the Town of Marcy and was sent to the Oneida County Jail on $15,000 bail. Shanice I. Perez, 20, of the Bronx was charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband and fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Authorities say she possessed approximately 31 grams of marijuana. She was also arraigned in the Town of Marcy Court and sent to the Oneida County Jail on $5,000 bail.
