UC cancels water polo matches due to pool health issue

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica College was set to host a weekend-long tournament this weekend, however, after various teams fell ill, were forced to cancel.
According to Dave Fontaine, the Athletic Director at UC, 8 schools from around the nation were participating in this week's tournament.
However, after many players began complaining of nausea and other illnesses, along with the water becoming discolored, the entire event had to be called off.
Fontaine stated that they are unsure about how or why this occurred in the pool, as they had never experienced a situation like this before.
The decision to cancel was due to a preventative safety measure and to further investigate the situation in the pool.

The matches that were cancelled will be rescheduled, and the administration at UC is working with the Collegiate Water Polo Association to determine the dates that they will be made up.
