UPD: Man charged after he allegedly strangled and punched girlfriend

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica man faces charges after being accused of severely beating and strangling a woman unconscious.

Edward Brown, 61, has been charged with third-degree assault and second-degree strangulation.

Utica Police responded to the 1400 block of Kemble Street at around 6 p.m. Wednesday night for a report of a domestic dispute.

Once on the scene, a woman who had several facial injuries, told officers that the night before her boyfriend punched her in the face, knocked her to the floor and grabbed her by her shirt and continued to punch her.

Then she told police that he strangled her until she lost consciousness. When she regained consciousness, he slammed her head against the floor several times and strangled her again until she was unconscious.
