UPD: Man leaves scene of accident, drives drunk and fights police officers
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica man is facing several charges after he drove drunk, was involved in an accident, left the scene, and then fought with police officers, according to authorities.
Utica Police say that an officers saw a car with extensive front-end damage leave the parking lot of First Source Federal Credit Union on Genesee Street. The car also had smoke coming from the engine, according to police.
The car then began driving down Newell Street, sped up and passed another car, before Utica Police pulled the vehicle over on Sunset Avenue.
Police say the driver, 21-year-old Michael Piccione, was involved in an earlier accident near Melrose Avenue, striking a tree, and left the scene.
UPD arrested the suspect.
At police headquarters during the booking process, Piccione allegedly told officers how he grew up in the hood and was not afraid to brawl.
Police say Piccione refused to be searched and began to fight with officers. Piccione stopped when an officer pulled out a taser gun, authorities say.
Piccione was charged with the following offenses: • Criminal mischief • Obstructing governmental administration • Driving without headlights • Aggravated unlicensed operation (suspended license) • Failed to keep right • Unsafe passing • Speeding • DWI • Driving without a seat belt on • Failing to submit to a pre-breath screening test.
Piccione refused to submit to a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol content, according to police officials.
