UPD: Use crosswalks when dropping off students

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police are asking parents to use the crosswalks when dropping off their children at Conkling School on Mohawk Street. There have been several instances where parents are parking in the McDonald's parking lot and walking their children across in the middle of the block. Utica Police say not only is it illegal, it's also dangerous.

Utica Police say there are two designated crosswalks for the school, one at Mohawk and South Streets, and the other on Mohawk Street at the entrance to McDonald's. Officials say that is where pedestrians must cross.

Utica Police want to remind drivers in the area that the speed limit is 15 mph in all school zones from 8am to 6pm while school is in session. Police say they will be monitoring the area to make sure everyone complies with the rules.
