UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Students at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Utica took part in Veterans Day activities on Friday afternoon and the school invited some local veterans to talk to the students at an assembly in the gym.

One of the speakers, Master Sgt. Chad Tooke, of the U.S. Army, said he was honored to speak to the children adding that it's a good idea to instill respect in veterans at a young age.

"It's humbling to be invited to the school to speak, to be honored, as a veteran, doing something that I love to do," Master Sgt. Tooke said. "I love to serve my country. It's nice to know that even young kids appreciate that."

The Cadet Drill from Proctor ROTC conducted a flag folding ceremony and the students also sang songs and presented thank you cards to the veterans.
