Understanding ObamaCare: Experts decode the health care overhaul

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Aids Community Resources has experts on hand to help everyone, not just people with HIV, understand The Affordable Care Act known as ObamaCare.

The new health care overhaul has already changed the face of healthcare for those with health insurance in the form of preventive screenings and free immunizations.

But the coming changes will affect the poor, the uninsured, and the under insured.

For an estimated two million New Yorkers without health insurance, hundreds of insurance options will become available through a state-run Health Insurance Exchange Open enrollment that begins October 1st.

People who are healthy and rarely go to the doctor can opt for plans with higher deductibles. Older people with more health conditions that may require medications can choose a more comprehensive plan.

In 2014, the income eligibility level for Medicaid will be raised to 133 percent of the federal poverty level. That greatly increases the number of people eligible for Medicaid. This brings a major benefit to the struggling middle class.

AIDS Community Resources has experts on hand who have read The Affordable Care Act in its entirety. Those experts are on-hand to help everyone in the community.
