(WKTV) - Incoming freshmen and transfer students lined the walkway at Utica College on Monday Morning, as faculty and professors proceeded to the convocation ceremony.

The ceremony kicks off the 68th academic year at Utica College, and the school is welcoming its largest freshman class in years. There are 528 freshmen, and 179 transfer students.

The vice president of enrollment says the word of Utica College's academic programs and one-on-one instruction is spreading across the country, leading to the increase.

"This is exciting," said Jeffrey Gates, vice president of enrollment management. "It's an opportunity to set the standard of the excitement of the semester. It gets students off on a great start."

The keynote speaker is Mark Salsbury, a Utica College alumnus who has more than 30 years of global business experience.
