Utica College professor: Large ballot won't affect governor race

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Six political parties are already on the ballot for the race for governor, and another six filed petitions by the deadline to get on the ballot, bringing the total to 12.

A professor of political science at Utica College said he doesn't think the potentially big ballot will affect the outcome of the race, but said it may confuse people a bit.

"I think there's potential for a little but of confusion, but I don't think it'll have a significant impact on the election," said Luke Perry. "I think Cuomo is rather easily going to win re -election. All the fundamentals point to this."

Perry says Cuomo's incumbency, name recognition, amount of funds raised and the large number of Democrats in the state will help Cuomo coast to victory.

The general election is the first Tuesday in November.
