Utica Curling Club holds open house

By WKTV News

WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - With the Sochi Winter Games now in full swing, locals are getting into the spirit right here in Central New York.

The Utica Curling Club helped residents to satisfy their curiosity by holding an open house on Sunday.

The open house allowed interested locals to come out to the Club and experience life on the curling ice first hand.

The event was open to curlers both new and old, and of all skill levels to teach them the intricacies of the game, and to garner more interest for the popular Olympic sport.

"People learn the mechanics of throwing the stone, sweeping the stone, how to apply the proper rotation, get to throw a few rocks at both ends, and have a really good time," said Club Vice President, John Jacon.
