Utica DPW crews prepare for snow

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - City of Utica Department of Public Works is gearing up for the snow storm expected overnight Wednesday.

"We have gone through our plow trucks checking oil, making sure they are fueled up, putting new cutting blades on the plows themselves," said Dave Short, Public Works Commissioner. "We are checking manpower making sure we have enough people for tonight and getting some sleep now because we are going to be up for a while."

Short suggests all vehicles be off the road by 11pm Wednesday for the safety of drivers and to allow plow drivers to do their job.

During the morning commute, be aware of your surroundings.

"Be alert," said Short. "Our drivers are alert but it is a tough job. With those big plows sometimes you really can't see behind you or the side of you."
